It feels much more substantial compared to the foam pad as it is made out of rubber if im not mistaken. It does not feel heavy on the jacket and due to it being made out of rubber, it conforms to your body position compared to my old hard CE-1 back protecter that i had (don't know which brand is it as the writing on it has fade.
